Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: What is the schedule for the season?

Typically, your child’s coach will contact you sometime around mid to late July to inform you of your child’s team assignment and the practice schedule. Each coach sets practice schedules differently. Competitive teams are formed after tryouts in mid-April, then players are notified by mail immediately.

The regular season for Recreational begins after Labor Day weekend, and practices may begin on August 1st (Competitive teams may begin practicing and training mid-May).

Most games are on Saturdays and may start anytime between 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. There will be a few week night games early in the season.  We will play a 10 game season, which concludes in November.

Recreational teams may also enter the City Cup Tournament (U10 and older Age Groups). Competitive teams may enter tournaments throughout the year, starting in late July and ending in December. The schedule will be distributed and posted in August.

Both Competitive and Recreational teams may be invited to play in the CYSA organized Tournament held after the Fall season.  Teams are invited to play in this tournament. The top teams from the District V District State Cup Tournament will be invited to the Association Cup Tournament held between January and March, to vie for the State Title in their age group.  The regular season ends with the Club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM). We urge each member (YOU) to come to the AGM and participate in the board agenda.

Question: What happens when it rains?

Since we own no fields, we are at the mercy of those who do. Santa Rosa Recreation and Parks Department and the School Districts make the decision on when and where we can play. Games are usually canceled if it has rained heavily the day prior to the game and/or it is raining on game day.

To find out whether fields will be closed on your game day, check your email, call your coach/team parent, or visit our weather. Your Age Group Coordinator will be notified by 7:30 AM of game day. The Club through SRYSL may reschedule rain outs. SRYSL may or may not reschedule them depending on time availability.

Question: How are the age groups determined?

Your child's age group will be dependent on the calendar year instead of the school year as it has been in the past.

Proof of age shall consist of a Birth Certificate, Birth Registration issued by an appropriate government agency, Board of Health records, passport, alien registration card issued by the United States government, a certificate issued by the Immigration and Naturalization Service attesting to age, or a certification of an American citizen born abroad issued by the appropriate government agency. Hospital, baptism, or religious certificates will not be accepted. A valid California Driver’s License will be accepted for Under 16 and Under 19 players.

Question: Can players play down within their age group?

Players are not allowed to “play down” below their age group except for medical reasons. This requires a letter from the child’s physician.  Requests to play up or down from the assigned age groups may be allowed ONLY after receiving approval from the Club Board at registration which may take up to 3 days to complete.

No playups or playdowns will be considered after June 1st. The good of the player and the good of the game will be considered in these special circumstances.

All players (even those who played in SRS last year), must provide proof of age.

Question: How much are Club Fees?

Basic Play Fees:

Recreational - $125.00 per player for U10 and up, $90 per player for U6 and U8, uniforms purchased separately.
